The PSAI Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference is the world’s premiere education event focused solely on the portable sanitation industry. Attendees are provided with a wide array of resources to grow their business. Whether you are a portable restroom veteran, just opened your business – or you’re somewhere in between – the Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference has something relevant for you.

James R. Waite

James R. Waite, Esq. is a business lawyer with over 20 years in the equipment rental industry. He authored the American Rental Association’s book on rental contracts, and represents equipment lessors throughout North America on a wide range of issues, including negotiating and drafting rental contracts, as well as buying, selling and financing rental companies and their equipment.

In 2003, after decades of working with high-level managers, front line leaders, and employees of organizations both big and small, Michele Norris started to notice a change. A new type of employee had arrived in the workplace. These new employees were fast. They had high expectations and unusual communication and work styles. They were sometimes difficult for her to manage and usually widely misunderstood by others in the workplace. 

This new employee — the Millennial — was entering the workforce and almost immediately disrupting a workplace that hadn’t changed much in the last 50 years. As Michele saw this shift happening, she began to research this new and complex generation. With her newfound knowledge, her passion became preparing today’s organizations for the inevitable changes that come with the future at work. Michele is a generational facilitator who specializes in navigating the varying demographics in the workplace by focusing on generational education, leadership coaching, corporate culture and strategic leadership.

Michele has more than 30 years of professional sales and leadership experience for Fortune 125 companies including Xerox, ADP, and Boise Cascade Office Products/OfficeMax. Within these companies she led dynamic employee teams to 13 consecutive years of double digit, year-over-year sales growth. In her current role as President and CEO of Navigen Leadership, LLC, Michele helps her clients attract, retain, and empower the workforce of the future. Her one-on-one relationship with “C” level executives has helped make positive changes in culture, leadership approaches and communication between leaders and their workforce.

Michele holds a BA in Marketing from the University of South Florida’s (USF) College of Business in Tampa, Florida. She remains engaged in her university as a long-time volunteer, giving back through her roles as President of the USF Alumni Association, Chairperson and Founding Member of USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy, and Board Member of the USF Foundation. Her professional affiliations include Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credentialed through the International Coach Federation (ICF), University of Miami Coach Certification Program, Faculty for University of Tampa’s Modern Advances in Leadership Certificate; Coach for USF’s Management Certificate Program and the University of Tampa’s MBA Leadership and Fast Start Programs, and U.S. Partner for Women Reshaping the World (2014). She is secretary for International Coach Federation (ICF) – Central Florida. She is a member of the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD); Working Women of Tampa Bay; The Centre for Women; and the Society of Emotional Intelligence (SoEI). Michelle presented her session titled “Millennials and Beyond: Recruiting, Retaining, and Succeeding with the Next Generations of Workers.”

Charly Caldwell

In October of 2000, at the age of 29, Charly Caldwell II had the absolute honor of seeing an experiment of his pay off, in dividends. Six years earlier, after burning out from working long hours trading time for money, Charly had an epiphany. That epiphany was: “Recurring Revenue = FREEDOM.” On October 10, 2000 at around 1pm in the afternoon, Charly sold his first business, which primary profit center was ‘recurring subscription revenue’ achieving that dream of “FREEDOM”  and promptly hit the road in a BIG BUS Motorhome to tour the USA for a while. He quickly realized he missed his love of helping people – specifically business owners and entrepreneurs and continued his work while enjoying life!

Urgent Run/Walk

The PSAI held our second annual Urgent Run/Walk as a celebration of World Toilet Day and World Portable Sanitation Day! The PSAI joined with the World Toilet Organization (WTO), the United Nations, and other groups around the world to promote toilet options that help address the global sanitation crisis! We had fun, got some exercise, raised awareness about global sanitation issues, and helped raise money for two charities! Proceeds from the event were divided between Rise Tampa Police Foundation, a charity assisting first responders with their programs, and Friends of Ngong Road (FoNR), the parent charity operating Karibu Loo in Nairobi, Kenya.

FoNR assists children whose families have been affected by AIDS in completing their schooling. Karibu Loo is a portable restroom operation that helps fund FoNR and provides employment opportunities for program graduates. This event is an additional fee and requires a separate registration. Site Visit

Site visits are a favorite at PSAI events! Largo Wastewater Reclamation Facility generously offered to host the 2018 visit. It was a great opportunity to network, connect, and learn.


The PSAI Training Committee debuted its newest session, Health, Safety, and Professional Excellence. This session was included with your registration.

The PSAI Basic Service Technician Training and Certification Exam was held on Saturday, November 17.

Certification is voluntary and all participants had an opportunity to attend 5-6 hours of educational training to brush up and review of best practices.

At the conclusion of the classroom portion of this training, each participant could elect to pass a written test of technical skills and industry knowledge.

If you weren’t yet a Member of the PSAI, or it was just your first time at Nuts and Bolts, we welcomed you with a free training session on Preparing for Extremes and a networking session with key volunteers afterward.

Social Event

The Friday night social event is a highlight of the Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference each year. It is a great way to enjoy a relaxing evening with good food, good friends, and potential customers. In 2018 we gathered for a relaxing cocktail hour with good food and friends, then stepped across the street for an an evening at the Tampa Bay International New Car and Truck Show.
